LET'S CHANT...

THE COLORS OF LOVE!

Online Kirtan Camp: The Colors of Love with Jai Uttal combines 8 online modules (or episodes as we like to call them), live online group classes, as well as access to special bonus rhythm, voice and harmonium practice videos.

To practice the ancient yoga of devotional chanting all you really need is your tender heart, your natural voice and the willingness to explore the inner realms of deep feeling. As we repeat the names of the Gods & Goddesses with melody and cadence we open ourselves to the very real and ever present flow of divine grace.

In Jai's Kirtan Camp, you will gain tools to enhance your personal practice and transform your kirtan sadhana into an artful and inspired soul expression.

  • Bajrangbali Hanuman tutorials on guitar and harmonium
  • Introduction to Bajrangbali Hanuman sargam

Hanuman, the divine monkey, is forever the bhakta and servant of his beloved Rama.

EPISODE 2

Hanuman Chaleesa

The Hanuman Chaleesa is a 40 verse prayer and invocation to Lord Hanuman composed by Tulsi Das in the 16th Century. Is one of the most popular prayers in the world-wide bhakti community.

 This episode includes:

  • 4 Lessons
  • Introduction to the Hanuman Chaleesa
  • Hanuman Chaleesa Harmonium Tutorial
  • Hanuman Chaleesa Guitar Tutorial

Maharajji loved the Hanuman Chaleesa. It is still sung 24-7 in all of his ashrams. It has been part of my daily practice for decades. It can be sung in almost every melody and meter.

EPISODE  3

Ram Nam!

Ram Nam has been the cornerstone of my inner life since I met my guru in 1970. That’s 50 years. When I say or sing ‘Ram’, I feel connected to home!

This episode includes:

  • 5 Lessons
  • Invocation
  • Learn to sing Ram Ram Ram  (plus tutorials for guitar and harmonium)

All the practices of Bhakti Yoga float on the ocean of the holy names. All the divine names revolve in orbit around the simple word, ‘Ram’. This is totally personal and subjective; to a devotee of the mother all the mantras revolve around ‘Ma’; to a Krishna bhakta all the names revolve around ‘Krishna’; etc….

EPISODE 4

The Ocean of Auspiciousness!

I bow again and again to Lord Shiva, the cosmic dancer, the God of destruction and transformation, the ocean of auspiciousness; Who sits atop Mount Kailash, adorned by the crescent moon, snakes and the Ganges river, with Goddess Parvati by his side.  💓 This episode includes:

  • 6 Lessons
  • Introduction to Om Namah Shivaya
  • Om Namah Shivaya tutorials for harmonium and guitar

Immerse yourselves in the mantra ‘Om Namah Shivaya’, sung in Raag Bhairavi. This mantra, called the Mahamantra by Shiva devotees, has many meanings. To me it means ‘I offer myself to you, oh benevolent ocean of auspiciousness. May thy will be done....’

Episode 5

Dance & Rest in his Presence

We’ve all had a taste of the nectar of devotion; otherwise we wouldn’t be here! Let us add more light and passion to our practice and drink deeper from the well of grace. Shiva says: Fear not…. Take shelter at my feet…This episode includes:

  • 4 Lessons
  • Introduction to Hara Hara Hara Mahadev
  • Learn to play Hara Hara Hara Mahadev (Plus guitar and harmonium tutorial)
  • Odissi Dance and Prayer with Nubia

It's about finding the most vulnerable place inside ourselves and singing from that place. Then, whatever comes, comes. Who knows what will happen?

EPISODE 6

Radhe, Radhe!

Maharajji once said: “The only thing that is important is how much you love God.” And when he was asked: “What is the best form to worship God?”, he answered: “Every form!”. This episode includes:

  • 5 Lessons
  • Learn Radhe Bolo (Harmonium, Guitar or voice alone!)

Very often I often ask myself: What is bhakti? What is devotion? And each time this question arises, I have to explore deeper within to seek a new and more authentic response.

Episode 7

The House of Bhakti

We bow to She, who creates, preserves and destroys the universes. This episode includes:

  • 6 lessons
  • Invocation
  • Learn Twameva on harmonium and guitar or voice!
EPISODE 8

The Ramayana

The amazing epic! This episode includes:

  • 5 Lessons
  • Story time with Jai: The Ramayana

Now is the perfect time to spread these seeds of bhakti far and wide.

As we practice, our relationship to the mantras and the deities gets deeper and deeper. It is important to be authentic in our singing and to express what we are feeling in each new moment. Kirtan is like an oil rig, digging into the vast well of feelings, vulnerabilities, wounds and dreams and joy. As we slowly develop the art of chanting we become more able to reach those places of openness and connection.

ALL ART EXISTS TO ENHANCE DEVOTIONAL PRACTICE...

"THE UNIVERSE IS FILLED WITH COLORS AND MELODIES. THEY’RE JUST EVERYWHERE, IF ONLY WE COULD SEE AND HEAR THEM MORE CLEARLY. I FEEL THAT ALL ART EXISTS TO ENHANCE DEVOTIONAL PRACTICE AND DEVOTIONAL EXPRESSION."

In Bhakti we don't usually think of what we can take - our focus is more often on what we can give. That being said, how can we give fully when our vessel feels empty? The hope is that each and every participant in Level 1(+) Online Kirtan Camp will leave with a renewed sense of presence in their lives; with the heart fire of longing fully ablaze; with a connection to a sweet new community of friends and Bhaktas; and filled with equal measures of joy, peace and hope. And, perhaps most important, new insight into the practices that nourish and nurture the seed of love.
